  • Overview

    POSITION SUMMARY: With minimal supervision, the Training/Operator Instructor provides a comprehensive learning and development program for the technical employee that enhances knowledge, skills, and productivity. Additionally, this position develops, designs, organizes, implements, and conducts training programs. Champions a continuous learning environment while providing technical, operation, and maintenance training for customers.

     

     

    Responsibilities

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    1. Assists with creating a skills database and tracks training progress.
    2. Working with the training administrator & managers, helps coordinate skills inventories for employees to identify training gaps (TCDP).
    3. Demonstrates the features of Caterpillar products to customers and ensures their understanding and abilities to maximize capability of the products in a safe and efficient manner.
    4. Works with Product Support Sales Representatives (PSSRs) and visits job sites to advise customers of the care and maintenance of the equipment; providing support, information and guidance.
    5. Provides customer training as required to include but not limited to new machine delivery, operation and maintenance, ET, SIS, PartStore and VisionLink upon request of Management.
    6. Demonstrates the AccuGrade system that attaches to Caterpillar equipment by following up on prospects, point out product advantages, and representing Hawthorne’s interests.
    7. Prepares activity reports of training conducted by summarizing and documenting equipment demonstrations.
    8. Maintains current professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops and reviewing publications, and attends necessary classes to become proficient within his/her learning plan..
    9. Designs curricula, class materials, and facilitates classes according to the skills inventory results and requests by management.
    10. Works with key company personnel in developing class schedules.
    11. Keeps informed with new products and conducts NPI courses.
    12. Coordinates alternative training delivery methods such as: computer based training programs, web deliverable training programs, and distance learning programs for companywide learning programs.
    13. Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.

     

    EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

    1. Must have a High School Diploma or equivalent.
    2. Must have five (5) years industry or related experience.
    3. Must have proven written and oral communication skills.
    4. Must understand the operation and function of the Caterpillar equipment sold by Hawthorne.
    5. Must have proven presentation skills with the ability to answer questions to management, staff, employees, and/or customers.
    6. Must have strong organizational, analytical, and problem solving skills.
    7. Must be flexible and have a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities with enthusiasm.
    8. Must be able to work independently or as a member of a team handling multiple projects and meet demanding deadlines.
    9. May be required to travel.
    10. Must have a valid Driver’s License, with a good driving record and remain insurable.

     

     

    Qualifications

    TESTING REQUIREMENTS: Applicants may be required to pass a written and/or oral examination before being considered for employment in this position.

     

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

    1. Walking and moving about on foot often through uneven terrain.
    2. Hands/arms operating equipment, hand and power tools.
    3. Lifting: Up to 50 lbs. daily, frequent exertion. Raises or lowers miscellaneous equipment parts and tools.
    4. Handling: Seizes, helps or works with hands.
    5. Reaching: Extends hands and arms in any direction
    6. Standing: Remains in standing position if required to perform various functions of the job
    7. Climbing: In and out of equipment.
    8. Vision: Read work tickets, parts and service books and operate heavy equipment.
    9. Talking: Communications by radio, phone and in person.
    10. Sitting: Sits in equipment and vehicles.
    11. Stooping: Bends body downward and forward by bending at knees or waist
    12. Hearing: Hears well enough to discern mechanical problems for safety in and around shop and construction sites and to receive communication by radio, phone and in person.
    13. Laying: Lies in prone position under vehicles and equipment.

     

    PHYSICAL STRENGTH: Lifting: Up to 50lbs. daily, frequent exertion.

     

    ENVIRONMENTAL:          

    1. Noise: Works in conditions with constant or intermittent noise.
    2. Temp/Weather: Works in a warehouse and outside with variations of temperature and weather.
    3. Exposure: Foul odors, fumes and harsh substances.
